Cook up a Loaf of Bread

When Co-op and I decided to make party breaks based on our favourite food-related raps, one line by the legendary Large Professor instantly jumped to mind.

This particular line, the foundation of today's musical offering, is vintage Extra P: Nonsensical, preposterous, and hard-as-f**k.

Anyway, we hope you like it. And if you prefer your bread with fresh preserves spread on top, well Co-op's got something for you coming up next.

I Like The Whopper

It's time to hit you off with the first of our exclusive food party breaks! It's very fitting that this one is first, as it's a meal very dear to my heart: The Big Mac. Rob Base had it twisted, but don't worry it's all good now. Enjoy!

Welcome to Diners, Dancers & Douchebags!

DJ Co-op and DJ Hunnicutt are back with their 4th annual Western Canadian tour - DINERS, DANCERS & DOUCHEBAGS. Inspired by a similarly-titled Food Network program, Winnipeg's favourite DJs are traveling to the coast, looking for the west's finest Diners, Dancers and Douchebags!

DINERS:
Everyone knows a road trip runs on food, and a tour is no different. Co-op and Hunnicutt will be looking for the best places to stop for grub - both on the road, and at each tour stop. Whether it's milkshakes in Moosomin, BBQ in Burnaby or fillet-o-sole in Fernie, it will all be documented and reviewed on the tour blog: dinersdancersanddouchebags.blogspot.com. Know a joint the boys absolutely must hit up? Let them know by leaving a comment or email via the blog!

DANCERS:
Of course, Co-op and Hunnicutt are DJs before food critics and they're looking for the best booty-shakers the west has to offer! Think you've got what it takes to make the blog? Send in video of you and your friends dancing and you could win VIP passes to the party in your city! To help you get prepared, Co-op and Hunnicutt have made a series of funky food-related party breaks and will be releasing them as FREE downloads on the blog in the weeks leading up to the tour. Once again, they'll be up on the blog!

DOUCHEBAGS:
Sadly, no dance party would be complete without the requisite number of douchebags at the venue - they make the cool people seem that much cooler! Rather than ignore their existence, Co-op and Hunnicutt are choosing to celebrate the douchebag. They'll be photographing, interviewing and rating every gnarly dude they come across – comparing them to the alpha-douchebag himself: Guy Fieri, host of an unnamed Food Network show. Do you or someone you know fit the bill as Western Canada's biggest douchebag? Let Co-op and Hunnicutt know, and we'll feature them on – you guessed it – the tour blog.

DATES:
Friday, February 12 • Lake Louise Explorers Lounge
Saturday, February 13Calgary Hi Fi Club
Tuesday, February 16 FernieBulldogs
Thursday, February 18 Golden Rockwater Bar & Grill
Friday, February 19 VancouverShine
Saturday, February 20 Kelowna – Cush Restaurant & Lounge

DJ Co-op and DJ Hunnicutt

With their unique blends of hip hop, funk, electro, rock, reggae and anything else that gets bodies moving, the dynamic duo of DJ Co-op and DJ Hunnicutt have been ruling the dance party scene in Winnipeg for nearly a decade. Together they have thrown dozens and dozens of parties at clubs (Doin’ the Do!, Get on the Good Foot!) on riverboats (That's the Funky Ship!, The Funk Boat) roller rinks (A Roller Skating Jam Named “Saturdays”, Bounce Rock Skate Roll) and even ice skating rinks (Soul On Ice), all the while making each party unique, and challenging themselves to out-do the last.

The winning formula? Well, this turntable tandem not only has the skills (and the records) to make the dance floor elite go wild, they also have the knack for packing them in, too. From witty press releases and quirky radio and internet commercials, to imaginative theme parties and unforgettable posters and flyers, these showmen and shameless self-promoters make sure that everyone knows where to be on the night of their party.

And the hard work has paid off – the duo has been voted Winnipeg's best DJs by the readers of Uptown Magazine every year since 2002.

Co-op and Hunnicutt’s creativity has earned them an international reputation, and as a result they have joined a global network of like-minded party-rockin’ DJs. The duo has hosted an impressive collection of special guests over the years, including A-Trak, The Rub, Smalltown DJs, Certified Bananas, Skratch Bastid, Stretch Armstrong, DJ Day, DJ Nu-mark, Buck 65 and Shout Out Out Out Out.

Lately, Co-op and Hunnicutt been expanding their reach to the rest of Canada and beyond. The boys have been featured multiple times on Much Music and CBC Radio, and they’ve rocked crowds in Minneapolis, Chicago, SXSW in Austin, Pop! Montreal and at The Rub – one of New York City's hottest monthly parties.

DJ Hunnicutt has been DJing since 1991, both in the clubs and as a member of the Winnipeg instrumental outfit, the Hummers. As a member of Farm Fresh, Hunnicutt is also a co-founder of the acclaimed Canadian hip hop label Peanuts & Corn Records. Currently, he is the DJ for all of the acts on the Peanuts & Corn roster, including rappers mcenroe, Pip Skid, John Smith, Birdapres, Gruf and Yy. Since 1994, Hunnicutt has appeared as a performer or producer on over 40 albums, recording with artists as diverse as the Rheostatics and Mood Ruff. He’s hosted Born in the Break, a weekly radio program on UMFM, since 1998 and if that wasn’t enough, he also DJs for the internationally acclaimed improv comedy duo Crumbs, playing to sold-out theatres in Europe.

With ten years of experience under his belt, DJ Co-op likes to think of himself as Winnipeg's most versatile DJ. From the early days of throwing underground hip hop nights and dance parties, to earning a spot in the 2005 Canadian DMC battle finals. His fresh and intelligent mixes have blown up Canadian campus radio charts, and gotten love online from several taste-making sites including discobelle.net. Most recently Co-op has been found backing up Epitaph/Big Dada rapper Cadence Weapon and Foultone/Marathon of Dope MC Pip Skid. He's also incredibly good at pinball.

Diners, Dancers and Douchbags is DJ Co-op and DJ Hunnicutt's 4th annual western Canadian tour.
